Adult Learn 2 Sail

This course will give you a basic understanding of sailing, and how to make a boat sail in the way that you want it to. This course is aimed at people with no experience with sailing, or those with experience who want to get back into the sport.

A range of potential session dates will be provided closer to the start of the next sailing season, in September

The course will run over three days; one weekday evening session and a Saturday and Sunday.

 

The evening session will cover safety, and theory of sailing

  • Safety aspects of sailing – on the land and on the water

  • Self-rescue, distress calling

  • Names of boat parts

  • Theory of Sailing

The weekend sessions will involve sailing in our trailer yacht, practicing sailing manoeuvres

  • Rigging the boat

  • Launching and retrieval

  • Points of sailing

  • Tacking and Gybing

  • Coming alongside

  • Basic seamanship

The course will be taught by one of the clubs experienced yachting coaches in our Hartley 16 trailer yacht. The course will cost $100, and if you want to continue sailing at the club, you will need to commit to a season adult membership of $220, which gives you full use of club facilities, and club yachts.

The on-water sessions are subject to the prevailing weather conditions on the day, you will be notified in advance if the session is postponed.

After you have completed this course, you will have the skills required to start racing in our weekly club races in club owned dinghies such as Sunbursts (2 Crew) or a Laser (1 Crew). Further training can be made available by arrangement.
